Fighting God's way

Fighting God’s way

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come, that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

John 10:10 (NKJV)

Further Reading: Matthew 5:43-48

Many parts of South Africa are in tremendous turmoil right now. Stealing, killing and destroying has become the order of the day and we only need to read the scripture above to know where that is birthed from.

There is looting, burning and breaking down of other people’s properties. Businesses are closed and many are destroyed because those who grab at any opportunity to tear down have accepted it as their right to do so. We look at the footage being shared on the news or social media and we’re literally gob-smacked at what is happening right now.

I spoke to someone who called me this morning who also lives outside of South Africa and she was deeply moved by what was happening and felt tremendous fear for her family who are stuck in the middle of all the chaos. She told me how hard it was to not be there, to be able to give them a hug or help in any physical way.  I have family and dear friends in SA so I know how that feels.

Read: Matthew 15:18-19 and Eph 6:10-20.

If we, as Christians however, could take a step back and think about all the scriptures above, we’ll know that this is not a physical fight. We can’t take up physical armour and win. It will never result in triumph if we do.

This is not a fight against flesh and blood,

it’s a spiritual fight that we start on our knees.

Eph 6:12  says that we do not fight against people, but against the authorities and the powers of the dark world of satan. (paraphrased).

God does not leave us powerless without weapons of defence and offence in difficult situations that we face. He has given us the Armour of God to protect us and to fight with. It’s only then that we can stand our ground - and when it all seems to be falling apart around us - we will still be left standing strong in the power of His might.

BELT OF TRUTH:  What is the belt of truth - It’s the infallible Word of God.

The Truth of WHO GOD IS. The Truth is God’s Son Jesus, who will stand to the end of time and beyond. (Jesus is the only truth, the only way and life beyond measure!)

BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS:  What does Righteousness mean?  It means that when you are saved, redeemed and born-again, that you are in right standing with God. When God sees you as His daughter, He sees Jesus. You are IN HIM.  There is no fiery dart of the enemy that can come between you and your righteousness in Christ - unless you allow it to through sin.

FEET FITTED WITH THE GOSPEL OF PEACE: It’s hard to imagine that the people who are destroying their own cities may want any change of heart right now, other than the short-term goal of getting whatever they are stealing right now at someone else’s expense.  But it’s not a matter of wanting the change as much as it’s a fact that they need Jesus. This scripture is such a testament to the pure motivation of God.  Ephesians 6 talks about struggling against evil powers, and still God’s heart always remains on Souls, Souls, Souls!

Always be ready to share the gospel with those you are praying for. Their hearts may not be in the right place at the time, but any seed of salvation that is planted, God can and will use to bring lasting change.

IT IS WRITTEN

TAKE UP THE SHIELD OF FAITH: I have used this example so many times in the past few weeks and again, it is so relevant right now. When Jesus was in the wilderness and satan came and tempted him - Jesus did not sit down to reason with him. He simply quoted scripture - the Word. PERIOD!

Rom 10:17 says that faith only comes by hearing the word of God. it does not say read every single book by everyone you find interesting on google. Faith will ONLY come when you spend time meditating in the word of God. Jesus used the shield of Faith in the wilderness. He spoke only what His Father had already spoken. We need to know the Word if we are going to overcome the darkness of this world. We don’t need to know the tactics of darkness - because it is only the Light of the Word that can extinguish it.

KNOW THE LIGHT & YOU KNOW JESUS.

HELMET OF SALVATION: For me, this means my helmet of salvation. It's knowing Who I am in Christ and above all, knowing who I am to God. I am secure in my knowledge and my faith that I am saved, chosen, redeemed and deeply loved that no one can shake that knowing. My knower knows who I Am. I Am A Child of God.

SWORD OF THE SPIRIT - the Word of God:  Again - we are not fighting a physical fight - but we are speaking the word of God over every situation that we encounter. We are praying Psalm 91 over our country and our loved ones. We are praying for the Peace of God to reign in our hearts, and for the Love of God to cast out all fear.

God vision is not just on what’s happening around the world. His vision is eternal. Our lives are eternal - and when we can take a step back, dig a little deeper and see the eternal purpose of the Father (to get as many souls in heaven one day!) we’ll see that this light affliction is but for a moment and that God will work everything together for good, for those who love Him. (2 Cor 4:17 &  Rom 8:28 combined & paraphrased)
